When I played at Klubb Rotor, the gig was recorded and we planned to make some kind of “proper” release of it. Unfortunately, very little sound was picked up from the audience and when the atmosphere wasn’t caught on tape I didn’t think it was worth doing something with. But since I went through the trouble of recording the thing, I figured I might as well post it here.
Happy 2009 everyone!
Mr.Suitcase - Live at Klubb Rotor

Ah well, finally a date has been set for Uppsala. December 12, people. At Klubb Rotor. I’m planning for it to be a very special evening so if you have nothing else to do, welcome to join in the party!
Sadly or hopefully (depends on how you look at it), this may be the last gig I’ll do in a long time. I read today that Chris Martin (of all people!) said you shouldn’t be in a band after you’re 33. Although I have some years to go, I absolutely agree with him. Pop music should be fresh, it should be about doing stuff because it hasn’t been done before, because it’s outrageous and fun. My Mr.Suitcase moniker has been around for over 3 years and frankly, when I do new stuff now I’m just repeating myself.
Habit and fear of change are the worst reasons for ever doing anything!
No, no… It’s not the end. It’s not goodbye. That would be just too much drama. But December 12 marks the beginning of a break, an interlude. I don’t know what’s waiting on the other side of that. How it will sound, what I’ll do. But I’ve had so much fun and I am so pleased with the “Guidelines…” and “Frauds” albums and there’s no use chasing dreams when they’re already fulfilled.
But… When you think that it’s over, well it hasn’t even begun.
See you in Uppsala!

Looks like the Uppsala gig is jinxed. My news yesterday about a new confirmed date on October 18 were false, because I hadn’t updated my calendar as I should have and on that date I was already busy. So, unfortunately I won’t come to Uppsala in October. I’ll let you know if there will be a future date that can be definitely confirmed!

Unfortunately, due to a logistic problem I’ve been informed the gig at Klubb Rotor on October 3 is postponed. The new confirmed date is October 18, same place. Be there!

The first of autumn’s confirmed gigs: I’ll be coming back to Uppsala for a gig at Klubb Rotor on October 3. Actually, it’s my first live event of the year and I’m looking forward to see what kind of live set confusion I can cook up. Klubb Rotor is arranged by people like Unai and Crystal Fake (the latter who did a fabulous remix of “Stilnocturnal”, download it here) and there’s more information on their site.
My friend Saint Parrish will join in on vocals.
I hope I can announce another upcoming gig soon (yet to be fully confirmed).

Although it’s high summer outside, I’ve spent some time in the studio lately. A couple of new tracks are coming along. Without it being my intention when beginning, the recording sessions have been characterized by two things:
1. Pop and shiny happy people. I actually thought the new tracks would be rather dark and gothic, but instead they have this crisp poppy sound. Don’t know where that came from.
2. Old synthesizers and effects everywhere. So far, I’ve almost solely used the vintage stuff in Roth Händle studios instead of just bringing up the software plugs. I’m not much for setting up rules before recording, but after “Frauds” (which heavily depended on old effect boxes) it just happened to end up this way. And I like it. Nothing like an almost beat timed delay-pedal.
We’ll see where this will go. Can turn out to be anything. Seriously.

I made an interview a couple of days ago with TorrentFreak regarding the mash-up/remix/cut-and-paste-theory behind “Frauds”. Now, Mashable and Wikinomics have picked up the story. Nice reads!

This past winter, I began putting together what I’d planned to be a mixtape for my friends. But instead of just mixing songs in a set, I suddenly found myself weaving the tracks together, inspired by collage aesthetics and ambient pop. I began adding new elements where I thought the originals were lacking. People began dropping by the studio to record vocals and instruments over the loops and fragments I’d extracted and, well… Soon enough, the result has become more than just the generic mixtape.
“Frauds” is neither mixtape nor album. It’s neither remix nor mash-up. It’s something in between. “Frauds” is built from elements ranging from Prince to Nicolas Makelberge, from Ashanti to Zongamin, layered with field recordings and finalized by the recordings in Roth Händle Studio where the album… Sorry, the fraud was completed.
“Frauds” features guest appearances by Mattias Olsson, Henric Larsson, Christian Fernandes, Gösta Fråd and Gryqllo.
Download “Frauds” here (Torrent) or here (Kitty Litter mp3).

The old mrsuitcase.se is history. It was written in plain html, poorly. It lacked a good method for displaying news, sadly. I waited too long to remove and replace it, obviously.
With this new site up, the information will be easier to get and it will give me a reason to keep it updated. Subscribe to the RSS feed right now to keep updated with new releases, gigs and the occassional odd stuff.
