During late winter 2008, Mr.Suitcase began putting together what he thought would be a summer mixtape for his friends. Instead of just mixing songs as in a DJ-set, however, he soon found himself weaving bits, loops and pieces from the songs together, making new tracks out of the elements. He says the project “got completely out of control” when friends started to drop by the studio to record new instruments and vocals over the samples. In the end, he had an album’s worth of new songs, although they all were rooted in someone else’s work.

“Frauds” is neither mixtape nor album. It’s neither remix nor mash-up. It’s something in between. “Frauds” is built from elements ranging from Prince to Nicolas Makelberge, from Ashanti to Zongamin, layered with field recordings and finalized by the recordings in Roth Händle Studio where the album… Sorry, the fraud was completed.

“Frauds” features guest appearances by Mattias Olsson, Henric Larsson, Christian Fernandes, Gösta Fråd and Gryqllo.

GUIDELINES FOR AN EMERGING CENTURY

Mr.Suitcase’s first full length album was music somewhere between the club’s dance floor and the winestained sofa in an empty flat. They were pop songs disguised with dance beats, a soundtrack for the last party before the bomb falls.

When the recordings began during autumn 2007, Mr.Suitcase moved into the Roth Händle Studio in Stockholm. This gave him new possibilities with the recordings and the album became a blend of acoustic instruments and the Mr.Suitcase’s characteristic electronic sounds.

Guest appearances on the album included vocals by Sanna Fischer (track #5, #13) and Johan Tuvesson of Nicolas Makelberge (#2). Guitars were played by Christian Fernandes (#5). Percussion and guitar harmonies by Mattias Olsson (#12, #13). Voice by Michael Digby Grant (#1, #8).

THE SHAME OF BEING IMPERFECT

Following a number of remixes and mp3s in 2005, Mr.Suitcase’s debut EP “The Shame of Being Imperfect” was released in May 2006 on Kitty Litter Records. It was released at a party at Klubb Shaktar in Örebro.

The lead track, “Ours is a Time for Falling in Love” featured Örjan Lindbeck of Le Sport on vocals and got a lot of radio play. The video was shot by Stefan Johansson of SWJ Media.

The EP also featured vocals by Sanna Fischer on “Christmas Leftovers” and Åsa Eklund on “The Road Not Taken”.
